22lr Takedown Rifle - Rimfire firearms have been a staple in any serious outdoorsman's arsenal for over 100 years. The simplicity, affordability, and lightweight nature of circle fire rifles make them perfectly suited for hunting, pest control, plinking fun, and a dash of self-defense. Most of us have probably used a rimfire rifle as one of our first experiences with firearms, and I can personally say today that rimfire guns in general have been one of my constant favorites over the years. These are my top 5 rimfire survival rifles for any occasion. I hope I never need it to get to that point, but if it does, one of these will help me (or you) prepare.

22lr Takedown Rifle
The 10/22 was the first firearm I shot as a child. Today, I proudly own it as part of my extensive firearms collection, and I think if I had to make the difficult decision to leave the rest behind in an emergency, I would probably stick with a Ruger 10/22. Shown above is a disassembled and stock model of the X-22 Backpacker. The takedown model can be disassembled and reassembled in a short time, and the stock mentioned above can hold a spare 10-round rotary magazine.
Rifle Review: Davidson's Ruger 10/22 Takedown Backpacker
Triggers tend to be better on stock Ruger 10/22 rifles, and mounting optics on a stock rifle can be a pain if they don't come with a Weaver or Picatinny rail. Ruger 10/22 with a Backpacker Magpul stock will save you just $639.00
This is probably the gun that started it all for the ambient fire survival market. The AR-7 was originally made by the Armalite company (hence the name) and was eventually taken over by Henry Repeating Arms, with some design changes later on. The AR-7 has a floating stock that houses the receiver, two spare magazines, a seated magazine, and the barrel assembly. The rifle is easily lowered and reassembled, and can be incredibly accurate at short range even though the front sight and front sight are on two different parts.
While it is not the most resistant firearm, nor the most beautiful, the pistol actually floats in water so you will not accidentally lose it, but in my experience it is probably better to save this feature for a real emergency. The Henry AR-7 US Survival Rifle costs just $318.99.
Disadvantages / Accuracy is questionable at greater distances and there is no definitive method for attaching an optic.

Volquartsen ultralight takes a few things seriously: precision and lightweight design. While it normally comes with a laminated wood stock, it is equipped with a Modshot stock pictured above and a fore-end that reduces its overall weight to just 3 pounds 13 ounces. While it can't be disassembled to fit in a backpack, you should have no problem hanging this on your back for long trips to your next location.
The rifle comes standard with a picatinny rail, detachable forward impact stabilizer that can be replaced with a suppressor, and the option to mount a C-More sight in a very low position on the receiver; This rifle provides an excellent close shooter. it is light as a feather. The Volquartsen Ultralight is available in 22LR and costs $1579.99.
What this rifle lacks in style it more than makes up for in weight and power. The Savage Arms Model 24 is not only a 22LR barrel (which is why it made this list), but also a barrel with a .410 hole in the bottom. This not only gives you more range defense capabilities, but also the list of game you can expect to hunt seriously in a survival situation.
The synthetic stock gives the Model 42 durability, and its dismountability means it's easier to stow. Best of all, the combo rifle / shotgun is equipped with a bug bag that can hold spare ammunition and easily hang on the back for efficient transportation. The Savage Model 42 costs $549.00
The 5 Best Rimfire Survival Rifles To Keep You Alive
In conclusion / If you are looking for a rimfire rifle and a small backup to come to the rescue when you meet the unexpected, take this with you
The CMR-30 packs a punch thanks to its Magnum 22 chambering, but it also has many other features that make it worthy of being a competent environment-fired survival weapon. The rifle has a retractable telescopic stock that makes it more compact, and the CMR-30 can shoot in both the extended stock position and the folded position, making it more versatile in an emergency. Generous picatinny rail space means you have plenty of room to mount optics, lights and vertical front handles if that's your style.
The pistol is also incredibly light at just 4.2 pounds. It has a full size 30 + 1 magazine capacity. The If I 22 WMR will give you a little bigger game or increase your lethal range a little beyond the standard 22LR, but it will still allow you to use a light rig so it won't weigh you down and other Your gear. The Kel-Tec CMR-30 retails for $609.99.
The 22LR is perfectly lethal enough to kill these animals without fail: squirrels, rabbits, mice, coyotes, raccoons and a variety of small bird species, from perhaps a turkey.

While the 22LR cartridge is able to knock down a deer with its reduced range and perfect shot placement, personally I would not recommend it as you are more likely to injure the animal and then escape and die. and a quick meal.
The 22LR can be a good carry option in some situations. However, due to its limited amount of energy and relatively light bullet weight, the cartridge is understandably preferable to larger calibers for self-defense situations.
The 22LR is truly lethal for both human and animal threats, but shot placement will be key and in a survival situation it is best to keep rimfire gear for animals and carry a medium fire pistol for human threats.
That's a good question to ask yourself if you're stockpiling ammunition for the apocalypse. Theoretically, Rimfire Ammunition, like all ammunition, should last indefinitely if properly stored and sealed. Rimfire ammunition, especially the 22lr, does not cramp as well as other copper-plated bullets, so you will find more blank 22LR than anything else, but fortunately, the 22LR is still relatively expensive, and most people do not rely on the cartridge for self defense.

The .22 serves a purpose in any survival situation and just life in general. It makes a great hunting caliber small game and can also work for defensive purposes.
The reason we are making this list of rimfire survival rifles is because .22LR ammo is usually readily available and inexpensive. Most of us have a supply on hand and it is relatively easy and inexpensive to get a stock. An ambient fire in .22 can also work in survival situations.
