22 Backpack Rifle - When it comes to 22 rimfire semi-automatic rifles, there is a short list of iconic models that have truly made their mark over the decades. These include, in no particular order, the Remington Nylon 66, the Marlin Model 60, the Browning SA-22, and of course the Ruger 10/22. Of these, Ruger is certainly the most used product, including stocks, barrels, stocks, magazines, and more. Lucky for us, Davidson's Ruger and Magpul have teamed up with Ruger and Magpul to make a very cool 10/22 Takedown, Backpacker rifle.
The deal is 10/22, it will hold and I have been using them for over 30 years, but this is my first experience with their Takendown model. And what are you? I like very much.

The Magpul X-22 Backpacker Stock is a thoughtful and innovative design in and of itself. Here are the masses:

I'm as old as I'm ever going to be, but some things still make me a goddamn wanderer, and this stuff is one of them. Containers are cool, but what puts things together is just cooler. And these things are really beautiful.
Something about the balance made him happy to be able to draw it from the pistol while one was keeping it.
Instead of the "Uncle Mike's" type sling button that I'm used to seeing on hunting rifles, this one is set up in a more traditional way. Once the metal insert (not included) is inserted into the hole in the stock, the push button sling swivels can be used as shown here.

The stock Magpul X-22 Backpacker makes the most of the Takedown X/XXII, allowing for more functionality as well as allowing two key storage simultaneously.
The barrel continues into that black sheet when you nest the two parts of the gun.
It is easy to store the barrel by removing the connecting rod. The product fits well and has a beautiful appearance; not rough, but still easy.
To remove the barrel & forend, click the side button to release the butt, then pull one of them out of the body.

There is also a storage tank in the kitchen. Perhaps the biggest problem with the product is the replacement lid (which they call the "core handle"), which does not open. I can't say that I really think so, but people have proven that they can and destroy all parts of guns that are not connected in some way.
That being said, I doubt anyone will lose this hat because of the loss. The orange o-ring seal makes it tight.
Satisfy the release and you can pull out the cap (Magpul calls it a "grip handle"). It has an O-ring seal for water resistance.
I got this gun the day before I went hunting, like last resort. After I brought it home, I started looking around the stock, just everything in it. At the time, I didn't know anything about this model.

When you find a hole in your gun, you'll have to open it to see what's inside. So I did - expecting to find some empty spaces.
It has a removable compartment (it's a storage compartment so it doesn't fall off) so you can replace a mag and an ammo box if you need to.
So, I have to say this is one of the best things about this gun. I also like the color of the flat earth. My main gripe is that I have to push my face down into the cheek rest to see it, so it could use a smidge more.
If you don't have X/22 Takedown and this product, well it's a bad idea. But you can buy it. It will work with sports balls and bullets, and is currently listed on Magpul's website for $109.95 in black, gray, and FDE.

When it comes time to take your 10/22 apart, it's really a piece of cake. Slide the lock button forward, and with the bolt slightly or fully retracted, turn the barrel 1/4 clockwise (as viewed from the rear gun). Then pull the barrel out of the receiver. Offer!
The first time you assemble the receiver barrel, adjust the knob to remove the "slope" between the barrel and the receiver. I couldn't do this until I fired the first time, and the fit between the barrel and the receiver was a little loose, but it fired every time and was beautiful. It clicked fine when I followed the instructions to change it.
The Ruger Takedown system is beautiful, and I believe it is the fastest, easiest takedown system I have ever used.
I love eye to eye. This is not surprising, because I have seen a long vision of the Williams pipeline, but I have some doubts about the vision after the release. This is not much of a problem when the gun is limited due to the proximity of the receiver, but when it is installed for transport it is very easy to see something behind it. Of course, the end will appear when it is red, so be careful.

As usual for the 10/22, the front sight is dovetailed into an integrated steel riser. The finish is as expected for a Ruger: Serviceable but a tad rough. The included fire extinguisher works well when you're not a firefighter.
This gun is factory accurate, but the sight is so low that my jaw almost never drops down in the stock toy to get a good sight. So the comb here is born like a smidge on the high side.
The crown was vehemently prayed to protect the kidney, and in the prisoners of war there is no reason for the crown to be damaged by a mundane rod.
The receiver has a painted brass drilled & tapped for mounting sight or sight. I have a vision of Williams watching the light through the two back holes in my walnut born 10/22.

Ruger has a base and hair. The base will accept weaver style scope rings or dovetail scopes "tip-off" scopes are often used for rimfire scopes.
If you're going to set up a resource, you'll want to add more chin rests, aka, to cover the container, including this one.
A cheek riser included; Change the measurement height of the storage cap of the stock if you want to increase the target.
I really like this product and almost wish I could buy it instead of returning it.

That said, I'm not a fan of the magazine extension. I found it easier to delete the 10/22 old newsletter that way; Just hold the magazine with the thumb and thumb, always push in the big thumb release, and draw from the gun.
With the continuous release, you can't download the magazine from anywhere, so I would like to repeat that you only use this method.
He likes the way he keeps it, like the way it goes together, and likes the way he kills. The cartoon cat is not nearly as different, weighing in at a slightly-creepy 5 pounds. I like the grooved surface Ruger uses on the current event.
This cup is fun, practical, and cute. All four of the magazines worked well, with the gun making me upset; while the cheap bulk ammo is fired quickly, I've got a stove. I'm happy with all the bangs; some of the older bulk-pack 22 ammo is not super reliable.
The Rimfire Report: The Ruger 10/22 Charger
If I have to complain about something, it would be that the chin rest is a tad too high for a comfortable fit, and the delayed release of the magazine takes some getting used to. In addition, this is a beautiful portable popper that you can store in your backpack, with many magic items in stock.
We don't always fall in love with the gun we try, but in this case some love is true. Suppose 1977 walnuts take 10/22 in the market? Not me…
Give the Ruger Davidson 10/22 Takedown Backpacker a good look if you're in the market for a 22 takedown.
