I'm a big fan of 6.5mm (.264") cartridges and the idea of a new 6.5mm wildcat for the AR15 / M-16 quickly caught my attention. The parent 223 case and only needed to change the barrel and magazine in the standard AR-15 / M16. 223 / 5.56mm AR15 / M-16 parts are available and compatible with the design. No new bolts or foreign brass required.

Illirian Engineering and Design designed this cartridge. They sell barrels, magazines and reloading dies for it. They were nice enough to lend me a 20″ stainless steel barrel and a set of Lee Reloading dies.
Designed as a 6.5mm alternative to the AR15/M-16 platform, the Patriot 6.5 Combat Cartridge uses Remington's parent 223 cartridge. I used new Winchester 223 brass to make my 6.5 PCC cases. I cut the cases to length, and the neck to 6.5 mm and the size die. This first group was raised and burned to make copper for the room. At this time, which is known as the formation of fire, the copper spreads on the wall of the room, increasing the strength of the case and changing the part of the shoulders.
Since the case required proper cutting, I used an international 223 cutter to cut the brass to length.
To test the new barrel, I built the upper receiver with the following Brownells parts:

For testing and evaluation, I mounted a Trijicon USMC Rifle Combat Optic and a Harris bipod on top. My M4 ground horse with a Geiselle SDC trigger completed the gun.
Five rotating teams were dismissed for developmental reasons. The shooting was done from a bench with a back pocket. 2″ black soil was used as a target. Velocity data was obtained using a MagnetoSpeedapublic The distance we wanted was 100 meters. The results are printed below:

I tested the cartridge against Paul Howe's CSAT standards. These standards are fired with sights (there is no shooting position), the gun starts well with the muzzle under the belt. Only clean shots in the area you have calculated. If it misses once, the drill is a failure. I shot three different drills, 1-shot center mass, 2- shots center mass, and 5 shots center mass, one to the head. I did five drills and posted my times below.
I chose the first drill for two reasons: I needed heat and I wanted to see if the combination of a 20" barrel and a 13" hand guard would slow me down. Note that a seed value of 6.5 PCC 100 provides the highest oral strength for this day. Note also that the 7.62x40WT/125 NBT (second position) was fired from an 18" barrel. The maximum point blank (MPBR), allows the shooter to aim his weapon at a given distance to hit a target of his size while maintaining the center mass. For example, when calculating the zero point on an 8″ target, the projectile will not rise more than 4″ above the line of sight or fall 4″ below. This is very useful for hunters, many of whom keep important areas of game and do not want to call for maintenance. For comparison purposes, our calculations are based on a clearance of 1.75″ above the bore (most AR-15s have a clearance of ~2.6″ above the bore).
Maximum empty range for the 6.5 PCC on an 8″ target is 284 yards. 17 yards shorter than the Remington 16.5″ 223 with Federal 55 grain FMJ (302 yards) and 29 yards longer than the 7.62×40 WT/125 NBT (255 yards).

6.5m/TCU is a popular choice for use in silhouette competition. Although I am not familiar with it, I was able to research the 6.5mm/TCU information and compare the remer print of the 6.5 PCC to the 6.5mm/TCU (Kiff, Gunsmith's Book of Chamber Prints, page 357). The TCU uses a 40 shoulder (PCC is 32 degrees) and 1.749" length (PCC 1.6450"), with a .255" (PCC is .145") neck. According to some old forum posts, it appears that the PCC was a modified TCU on the AR-15/M16 platform.
It makes me happy. While it doesn't have the raw velocity or muzzle power of the SPC 6.8, it gives shooters a shot at performance in the 223 Remington - while using a common parent problem, common bolt and magazine. I find this cartridge very interesting when hunting deer at 200 yards. Although I have never shot a game with heavy cover, I feel that I am well equipped for hunting in the woods in the Northeast.
For large-scale firing, the limitation may be the large preparation of copper and the necessary fire production. Looking at the length of the neck of the cartridge (.145 "), I was really surprised that it shoots and how it performs (the main objection of the 300 Winchester Magnum is the length of the neck is small compared to its bullet).
