Sen. Rick Scott, the Senate GOP campaign chairman, asked Monday whether President Joe Biden's cabinet should remove him from office, a near impossibility because of the sudden collapse in Afghanistan.

Scott, who is widely considered a potential 2024 presidential contender, tweeted: “We face a serious question: Is Joe Biden up to it or is it time for him to exercise his 25th amendment ?”
The Florida Republican's remarks echo calls by former President Donald Trump and his allies for Biden to step down, which began when the Taliban seized control of the country and toppled the Afghan government.
While Senate Republicans have widely criticized Biden for his administration's handling of the troop withdrawal, Scott was the only one to raise the possibility of invoking the 25th Amendment, which defines the order of presidential succession.
Under the 25th Amendment, which has never been used, the vice president and a majority of the president's cabinet would have to determine that he is no longer fit for office. Congress must then approve this process with a two-thirds vote in both chambers.

Replacing Biden over the situation in Afghanistan is unrealistic because Democrats remain in full control of Washington and the vast majority of Republicans are not calling for his resignation.
Biden is expected to address the country on Monday afternoon about the situation in Afghanistan. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
